Durban City FC CEO explains MacBeth Sibaya role at the club

Durban City FC CEO Younus Kadodia has explained the role of former Bafana Bafana international Macbeth Sibaya at the Motsepe Foundation Championship club.

The former Rubin Kazan star, Sibaya, has had several coaching stints in lower divisions, largely in assistant positions in SA.

Following his retirement, he began his post-playing career as an analyst at SuperSport United. This role served as a stepping stone to his appointment as head coach of the Matsatsantsa reserve team in 2015.

Thereafter, he went on to become the head coach at the KZN academy, a position he held until 2022.

Afterwards, Sibaya had a brief spell as an assistant coach at the now-defunct Uthongathi FC before moving to Venda Football Academy, serving in the same role in the second-tier league.

The 47-year-old is now working as the second assistant coach to Simo Dladla at Durban City, having joined the club in December last year.

NEW CHAPTER FOR MACBETH SIBAYA AT DURBAN CITY

“He joined us in December last year. So he’s joined the technical team and will be serving as one of the assistant coaches going forward,” said Kadodia during the interview with FARPost.

Kadodia says Sibaya’s appointment was recommended by head coach Simo Dladla, with the two having worked together both at Uthongathi and Venda Football Academy.

“I think any appointment within the technical team are done in consultation with the coach and the management,” he added.

“So, it was the proposal of the coach to add some more quality and depth to our technical team.

“I think someone like Macbeth is from KZN, and we believe that he’s experienced. He will be an asset at the club going forward.

“So far, it’s all going well, and we’re proud to have him here.”

Durban City are strong contenders for promotion to the Betway Premiership. They currently sit at the summit of the second-tier standings with 37 points after 18 matches.

They have also reached the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals after eliminating TS Galaxy in the Last 16 and Lerumo Lions in the Last 32.
