Kaka Sifumba to make career-defining move in Europe?
Luphumlo ‘Kaka’ Sifumba looks poised to make the most significant move of his career to a club competing in the UEFA Conference League.
The Cape Town City FC loanee spent the first half of the season in Portugal. That’s where he made strides in his adaptation.
The talented midfielder joined second-tier side FC Vizela in September 2024. He was set to make his official debut this month. Sifumba was actively involved in friendly matches for the club as they awaited his registration.
The 19-year-old’s journey appears to be taking an interesting turn with firm interest from Central Europe. Three-time Slovenian PrvaLiga title winners Olimpija Ljubljana are reportedly keen to register him for the second round of the season.
A social media post featuring a picture of the teenager in an Olimpija training kit, written in Slovenian, confirmed the club’s interest. Olimpija, sitting at the top of the table after a 3-0 win over Nafta on Sunday, are also competing in the Europa Conference League.
A MOVE TO OLIMPIJA WOULD BE CAREER-DEFINING
They have won 14 matches, drawn six, and lost once, as they lead the standings by nine points. A move to Olimpija would represent the best transition in his career.
At the end of the season, the top three Slovenian clubs are awarded a qualifying spot in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa Conference League.
The Citizens loaned the youngster until the end of the season. After this, a decision will be made about his future.
Affectionately referred to as ‘Kaka’ after the retired Brazilian star, the Cape Town-born midfielder burst onto the scene during the 2022/23 season. In that season, he secured the prestigious DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season award.
Last season, Sifumba made 12 appearances in all competitions for The Citizens under Eric Tinkler, who recently left the club.
However, the Betway Premiership side decided to send the youngster out on loan due to his limited playing time.
