Thabo September reveals Chippa’s stance on big teams circling for Kwayiba
Chippa United coach Thabo September has revealed the Chilli Boys’ stance on big teams circling for the signature of Sinoxolo Kwayiba.
September addressed Kwayiba’s transfer rumours following Chippa’s 3-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.
Kwayiba has been a standout performer at the Gqeberha-based outfit after his breakthrough in the 2023/24 season. The attacking midfielder scored four goals in 11 league matches in the previous campaign.
In the current season, Kwayiba has featured in 16 appearances in all competitions and scored five goals for Chippa. After proving his attacking qualities, the 25-year-old impressed the national team head coach, Hugo Broos and earned his first Bafana Bafana call-up in October 2024.
Kwayiba signed with Chippa United from the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Pretoria Callies in July 2023, and he is reportedly on the wishlist of big clubs.
THABO SEPTEMBER CROSSING FINGERS FOR KWAYIBA’S HIGH-PROFILE MOVE
According to several media reports, the talented midfielder is on the radar of both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
His coach, September, says he would love to see Sinoxolo Kwayiba being more arrogant on the pitch to get a dream move to the big clubs.
“I think I want him [Kwayiba] to be big headed in a right way, there is nothing wrong with having the right arrogance and the right attitude,” September said.
“Also, us being the only team in the Eastern Cape, it’s easier for us to manage him [from transfer rumours], and we want him to play his best football. We are all around him, the players, the technical team and the management; we are supporting him.
“So holding him back is not something we should be doing; we should let him be free and express himself. It’s good for him [to attract interest]; he must stay level-headed to move to those bigger teams. You have to perform, and I think he did well against Chiefs.
“For us, it is just to keep him on the ground because if he’s not performing or he’s not fit, those things play a factor; we try to manage him like the rest of the squad.”
Expressing a desire for players to progress in their careers, September added, “Hopefully, they buy him, you want players to move on,” before playfully asking Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa, “What’s your budget?”
