Shandre Camphell’s reaction to Club Brugge debut

SA Under-20 star Shandre Campbell has reacted to making his debut for Belgian giants Club Brugge over the weekend.

Brugge came back from two goals down to salvage a 2-2 draw against Sint-Truidense V.V on Saturday in the Belgian Pro League away from home.

Campbell was introduced as a late substitute in the 85th minute as the team was trailing 2-1. The 19-year-old was recently promoted to the senior team following great, consistent performances with the reserve side Club NXT in the Challenger Pro League.

The starlet sealed a move abroad following a great first professional season with Betway Premiership side SuperSport United. In the 2023/24 PSL campaign, Campbell made 30 appearances in all competitions, scored six goals and provided six assists.

With Club NXT, the former SuperSport rising star has made 14 league appearances. He found the back of the net six times and grabbed an assist.

At Club Brugge senior team, Campbell will get the opportunity to play alongside experienced player and former Liverpool FC goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. Another SA player who once played for Brugge is Bafana Bafana star Perch Tau in the 2018/19 season on loan from English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

“Proud to have made my debut for @clubbrugge. Mom and Dad, that’s for you,” Campbell posted on his official Instagram account.

Campbell has an opportunity to play in Europe’s best club competition, the UEFA Champions League, on Wednesday, 19 February. Brugge will take on Serie A side Atalanta BC in the playoffs in the second leg. In the first leg, Brugge won 2-1 away from home.
