Zimbabwe set to play World Cup qualifiers at Moses Mabhida
Zimbabwe is set to play their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban in March.
The match will be played on Thursday, 20 March, and kickoff is set for 6 PM. The Warriors of Zimbabwe have been using SA stadiums as their home grounds because their stadiums back home do not meet the requirements of CAF and FIFA.
The other SA stadiums that Zim have used as their home ground include the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane and Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
Moses Mabhida was Zim’s preferred choice as Bafana Bafana will host Lesotho at the New Peter Mokaba in March.
The Warriors are in Group C alongside Bafana Bafana, Lesotho, Nigeria, Rwanda and Benin. After four matches played in the qualifiers, Zimbabwe are sitting rock-bottom on the log standings with two points. In four qualifier matches, Zim are yet to register a victory following two draws and two defeats.
German-born coach Michael Nees has been doing well with the Zim national team since his appointment in July 2024. The 57-year-old is yet to taste defeat after three matches in the 2025 CAF AFCON qualifiers group G. In those matches, Zim defeated Namibia 1-0, then drew against Cameroon and Kenya.
Nees managed to book a ticket to the 2025 AFCON finals to be held in Morocco later this year.
