Banyana star Linda Motlhalo opens up on Glasgow City return
Banyana Banyana star Linda Motlhalo has opened up about her return to Glasgow City FC in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. This marks her second stint with the club, having previously played for them during the 2022/23 season.
In January 2024, Motlhalo departed Glasgow City to join Racing Louisville in the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States, a move that ultimately did not yield the desired results.
During her initial time at Glasgow City, she made 28 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals.
After mutually agreeing to part ways with Racing Louisville, the 26-year-old rejoined Glasgow City as a free agent. Before her return to Scotland, Motlhalo maintained her fitness by training with Hollywoodbets Super League side JVW FC under the guidance of Banyana Banyana legend Janine van Wyk.
LINDA MOTLHALO SAYS GLASGOW CITY IS HER SECOND HOME
In her first interview since returning to the club, Motlhalo says she didn’t think twice when an offer to return at the club came by. She views Glasgow City as her second home.
“Why I came back to Glasgow? Glasgow is my home. I call it my second home. I remember when I first left…all the staff members said whenever you’re going to come back, just know this will always be your home,” said Motlhalo.
“I think I didn’t even think twice when they called and said you can come back. When I got the call, I told my agent that’s where I’m going.
“I’m looking forward to seeing new players and old players, it’s something that is exciting. Like I said, it’s always home here, so I’m looking forward to meeting new teammates and making friends.”
Motlhalo could feature for Glasgow City this Sunday, March 2nd, in the final league match of the season against Motherwell FC Women.
The stakes are high, as Glasgow City currently sits second in the standings, tied on 51 points with rivals Glasgow Rangers FC, Celtic FC Women, and Hibernian LFC. A victory against Motherwell, coupled with dropped points from their rivals, would secure the league title for Glasgow City.
