Magesi, Chippa and Stellenbosch register victories
Magesi FC, Chippa United and Stellenbosch FC all registered victories in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday evening.
Magesi defeated Polokwane City FC 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in the Limpopo Derby in Polokwane. Striker Thabang Sibanyoni netted the only goal of the match when he opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a header following a set-piece situation.
The goal was Sibanyoni’s first of the season and also in Magesi colours. Despite the victory, the reigning Carling Knockout Cup champions remained 15th on the log standings with 14 points from 17 matches. They are a point away from 14th-placed Marumo Gallants.
On the other hand, Rise and Shine remained third with 29 points following eight wins, five draws and five defeats.
CHIPPA UNITED RETURN TO WINNING WAYS IN THE LEAGUE.
Chippa United returned to winning ways in the league after defeating Cape Town City FC 2-0 at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. Sinoxolo Kwayiba scored a brace in the second half.
CT City are without a victory in their last four league matches following a draw and three defeats. The Cape Town outfit is 10th on the log with 21 points from 18 matches. They have registered six victories and three draws and suffered nine defeats.
Last time out in the league, Chippa suffered a 1-0 defeat against Galaxy. After 16 games, they are ninth after collecting 21 points. The Gqeberha-based side has registered six victories, three draws and seven defeats.
At Mbombela Stadium, Stellenbosch defeated Galaxy 3-2. Devin Titus broke the deadlock 17 minutes into the match. Victor Letsoalo then levelled matters in the 31st minute, then Dzenan Zajmovic scored in the 48th minute. Substitute Ashley Cupido scored a brace in the second half.
The victory saw Stellies move to seventh on the log with 23 points from 15 matches. Stellenbosch have six victories, five draws and four defeats. As for The Rockets, they are fourth after amassing 25 points from 18 encounters. Galaxy have six wins, seven draws and five defeats.
