Sundowns defender shares thoughts on Munetsi’s big transfer to Wolves
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Devine Lunga has shared his thoughts on Marshall Munetsi’s big transfer move to Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old defender-cum-midfielder completed a deadline-day transfer to the English Premier League in the 2025 January transfer window.
Munetsi was signed from the French Ligue 1 side Stade Reims on a reported fee of R400 million. After moving to Wolves, Munetsi made his debut in the Premier League when his club lost 2-1 to Liverpool this past weekend.
The former Orlando Pirates utility player came on as a second-half substitute for Wolves in their defeat against log-leaders Liverpool and came close to scoring.
Following Munetsi’s dream move to England, Sundowns defender Devine Lunga has admitted that this would inspire a lot of youngsters. Lunga is familiar with Munetsi as the duo play together in the Zimbabwean national team.
WHAT DIVINE LUNGA SAID ABOUT MARSHALL MUNETSI’S MOVE TO WOLVES
Munetsi is following in the footsteps of Zim legend Peter Ndlovu and Marvelous Nakamba, who both played in the EPL.
“I think it’s a good thing [for Munetsi to move to English Premier League]. Peter Ndlovu has been there, Marvelous Nakamba has been there, and now Marshall Munetsi,” Lunga said.
“So I think this is opening doors for other players and young players that are coming. I think it’s a good one for him.”
Munetsi made a name for himself in South Africa after turning out for Baroka FC and Pirates, where he caught interest from France.
On the other hand, the ex-Golden Arrows wing-back Lunda will have his future at Sundowns decided, as his contract is set to expire in June 2025.
Lunga has struggled to cement a regular starting berth at Sundowns since signing from Arrows in July 2021. In the current campaign, the 29-year-old featured in 12 matches across all competitions for Masandawana before sustaining an injury.
