Veli Mothwa reveals how he has recovered from slump

AmaZulu FC goalkeeper Veli Mothwa has opened up on how the support at the club has helped him rediscover his form and place in the team.

Mothwa has not featured for ‘Usuthu’ since the 5-0 drubbing by Stellenbosch FC in January. But the Bafana Bafana international is part of the travelling AmaZulu squad to face Sekhukhune United at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday.

Mothwa admits that he has felt bad about some of his performances and also talks about competing with former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori.

Mothwa was speaking during a back-to-school campaign in Zebediela, Limpopo, where he has partnered with the Hollywood Foundation, Amandla Mobile, and the AmaZulu Community Trust.

VELI MOTHWA GRATEFUL FOR SUPPORT AFTER A SLUMP IN FORM AT USUTHU

“When bad things happen for the first time, you will feel bad,” said Mothwa.

“But when you have people who support you, especially the teammates, people who are in the offices at AmaZulu, then it’s going to be easy.  I am okay now, and everything is looking good.”

HOW THE AMAZULU FC GOALKEEPING DEPARTMENT IS UNITED REGARDLESS OF LACK OF GAME TIME

“In the goalkeeping department, there are no grudges or sad faces. Whoever is playing, you need to support him,” said Mothwa.

“It’s not the first time I’m competing with the greatest in the African continent. I have been competing with Ronwen Williams. I have also been competing with other guys like Daniel Akpeyi. But now I feel like the pressure is on us if you look at the goals that we conceded; it’s many goals. But as it is, it’s a nice competition.”

Mothwa has only featured three times for Usuthu this season. In those games, the 34-year-old conceded seven times.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu are in Polokwane for the Betway Premiership clash against Sekhukhune United.
