Why Khama Billiat snubbed PSL and Saudi Arabia club offers
As Khama Billiat continues with his strides in Zimbabwe, the reason why the former Kaizer Chiefs star, snubbed PSL and Saudi Arabia club offers has been revealed.
After reviving himself in the Zimbabwe elite league last season, it was widely expected that Khama Billiat would make a return to the Betway Premiership.
However, the talented attacker decided to stay put in Zimbabwe, joining Scottland FC, a team that will make its debut in Zimbabwe’s PSL when the 2025 season starts in March.
The 34-year-old signed for the ambitious club on 2 January 2025, ending speculation about a return to South Africa.
Kaizer Chiefs were believed to be interested in luring him back, while Sekhukhune United tabled an offer. There were also forays from the Middle East, with two Saudi Arabia clubs keen on pinning him down.
But the Zimbabwe Warriors star swiftly crossed floors from Yadah FC to the Zimbabwe Premiership newcomers Scottland FC as a free transfer.
INSIDE BILLIAT’S DECISION: WHY HE SAID NO TO PSL & SAUDI ARABIA
A source close to Billiat revealed to FARPost why the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Chiefs talisman decided to stay put in Zimbabwe.
Billiat’s decision to remain in Zimbabwe, despite offers from the PSL and Saudi Arabia, stems from a deep connection to his roots and a strong relationship with Scottland FC owner Scott Sakupwanya.
“He is enjoying the love at home. The support he received upon return to Zimbabwe was overwhelming,” said the informant. “That made him stay. Any player of his calibre would have left, but he has enjoyed being in touch with his roots.
“Moreover, the club owner [Scott Sakupwanya] played a crucial role when he came back home, so their relationship is strong. That is why he is at Scottland FC right now.
“They gave him a big reason to believe in himself, so maybe he will retire in Zimbabwe. The offers came, but he decided to stay because playing here gave him peace of mind.
“That is why he never took time to decide on his future after leaving Yadah FC. In fact, the decision was always clear that he wanted to continue in Zimbabwe. And he will probably end his career in his home nation,” added the source close to Billiat.
