Muhsin Ertugral issues update on Thulani Serero
Cape Town City FC interim coach Muhsin Ertugral has hinted at when former Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero is likely to make his debut at the club.
Serero recently returned to South Africa after spending 14 years abroad. The former Ajax Amsterdam player was reportedly in advanced talks to secure a move to The Citizens.
But speaking to journalists after CT City’s 2-0 loss to Chippa United in the Betway Premiership match on Tuesday, Ertugral seems to have confirmed that the 34-year-old has finalised a move to CT City.
Ertugral stated that Serero, who has been training with CT City for some time, has returned to the UAE to handle pressing issues. The ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates coach added that Serero is a potential option for CT Spurs in the future, he won’t be available for the Orlando Pirates match.

“He has gone back to the Emirates as quickly as possible to [sort out issues]. Yeah, he is definitely a possible solution for us but not against Pirates,” Ertugral said.
The Citizens are set to travel to Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday for a league clash with Orlando Pirates.
“He has gone to get his family sorted out. Bring them back and probably he is going back to Emirates tomorrow [Wednesday] and come back on the weekend. Obviously, the next game against AmaZulu FC, he will probably be ready,” added coach Ertugral.

Serero left the country in 2011 for a move to Dutch giants, Ajax Amsterdam. He spent six seasons at the club before joining fellow Dutch side Vitesse. During his time in the Netherlands, Serero won the Eredivisie three times with Ajax and played in the UEFA Champions League.
Before leaving South Africa, Serero won several awards, including the PSL Footballer of the Season, Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Season, after an outstanding season with Ajax Cape Town, now known as Cape Town Spurs.
Serero has spent the last five years in the UAE Pro League, playing for teams such as Al Jazira and Khorfakkan. He was a league champion with Al Jazira in the 2020/21 campaign.
