Nyirenda offers advice to the missing in action Augustine Mulenga

Former Baroka coach Wedson Nyirenda has offered words of advice to striker Augustine Mulenga who has been missing in action at AmaZulu FC.

The 35-year-old arrived at AmaZulu FC in January 2024 after one season in Chippa United‘s ranks. This is his second stint at the KZN club. His first stint lasted from October 2020 to July 2022.

In this one, he joined Usuthu from Chippa United on the 24th of January 2024. As such, he enjoyed significant game time then under Pablo Franco Martin, having joined midway through the season.

He featured in 13 matches and managed to score one goal. However, this season, the Chipolopolo star has been missing in action due to a long injury layoff.

As Mulenga is slowly gaining full fitness, he will be hoping to impress the AmaZulu co-coaches Arthur Zwane and Vusimuzi Vilakazi who are yet to test him. In addition, his return will give them more options as they seek to end the season on a high note.

However, with the season fast approaching the homestretch, it is hard to predict how many games Mulenga will feature.

Moreover, his future at the club could be uncertain as the season heads towards the end. On his return to AmaZulu FC, he penned a six-month deal with an option to extend it by one year.

WHAT NYIRENDA SAID

In an interview with FARPost, Mulenga’s compatriot said the ex-Orlando Pirates forward must be ready to open up for new clubs.

“He should open up to play for other good clubs in SA. I mean, who doesn’t know what he can do? Augustine can change a game at any time given a good time of play,” said Nyirenda.

The injury spell has seen Mulenga miss the better part of the current season. He has only made one appearance.

He was introduced as a substitute and played for 14 minutes in AmaZulu’s 2024/25 season-opening fixture against Polokwane City FC.

Usuthu have been counting on the likes of Etiosa Ighodaro and Elmo Kambindu for goals. They are eighth on the Betway Premiership table with 23 points from 17 games.
