Latest on Thabang Matuludi following injury setback

Polokwane City FC coach Phuti Mohafe has issued an update on the recovery process of reliable defender Thabang Matuludi.

Matuludi suffered a serious injury during a Betway Premiership match against SuperSport United last month.

The Bafana Bafana defender has since missed six matches for the Limpopo side. Before the injury, Matuludi had featured in 14 matches for the side this season across all competitions, including 12 in the league. He has two goals and an assist to his name.

There were also fears that the 26-year-old could miss the rest of the season. But Mohafe has confirmed that Matuludi will start his rehab within two weeks.

“He is about to come back. We thought it would be a long-term injury, but we were so lucky that it is not long-term,” said Mohafe.

“So he will be back not so long. I think in a week or two, he will start with his rehab. So that one [Matuludi] is about to come back.”

‘Rise and Shine’ also lost another key player during their 1-0 defeat to Magesi FC in the Limpopo Derby on Tuesday. Raymond Daniels was stretched off with an injury which Mohafe has downplayed as not that serious.

Zimbabwean international Douglas Mapfumo, as well as Hlayisi Chauke, have also been missing in action due to injuries suffered earlier in the season.

“We are losing players, but we just hope that with Daniels, it’s not that serious.  With the others, they are about to come back. We miss them a lot, so we hope that they can come back quickly because we need them,” he added.

Despite the defeat on Tuesday, Polokwane City remain third on the Betway Premiership log standings. They are 13 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. Their next league encounter will be away to Marumo Gallants on Sunday.
