Makhanya explains why Pirates loaned out Jabulani Mokone and Kgwadi Molepo
Orlando Pirates DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] coach Joseph Makhanya has shed light on why the Buccaneers decided to loan out rising stars Jabulani Mokone and Kgwadi Molepo to Motsepe Foundation Championship clubs.
Mokone recently joined Upington City FC during the PSL‘s January transfer window period together with his teammate Seth Green. The duo will spend the remainder of the season in the second-tier league.
The young talent, Mokone, has already made four appearances for his new club, and his displays have satisfied Makhanya.
Meanwhile, Molepo has joined Mpumalanga-based outfit Kruger United also on a loan deal till the end of the campaign.

Makhanya explained that they wouldn’t want to block players going to other teams when opportunities arise. He went on to state that this will help their players develop “character” and get used to playing competitive football.
“We have lost a lot of players to the first division, which is good in terms of the progress that they are making, and we are happy with that. If an opportunity comes and it’s a first-division team that needs a player from us, we will always give such an opportunity,” said Makhanya.
“This is because it’s about making sure these players become better players by pushing them into the next challenge. These loan moves will help them grow gradually and ready them to play in the Betway Premiership because the Motsepe Foundation Championship is something closer to top-flight football.
“It will help them develop a little bit of character and know how to win and remain competitive. At the end of the day, as we say, it’s us making sure that these players in the near future are ready to play for our first team because they are now out on loans to gain experience of playing in competitive matches.”
Makhanya continued: “For example, Molepo is with Kruger, and when the first team needs him, he is ready to represent the team.”
The Soweto giants also have Ciniso Mazibuko and Simphiwe Masilela on loan at Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League side Phezulu FC.
