Why Chippa encounter is do-or-die for Seema at Sekhukhune

With Sekhukhune United reportedly pondering a big decision on Lehlohonolo Seema, Babina Noko’s clash against Chippa United could be the deciding factor.

Sekhukhune, under the guidance of Seema, have been blowing hot and cold after struggling to maintain a consistent winning form.

In contrast, the Limpopo-based side claimed a convincing 4-2 victory over AmaZulu FC in the Betway Premiership at the Old Peter Mokaba in Polokwane on Wednesday night.

Keletso Makgalwa produced an impressive Man-of-the-Match performance with a sublime goal and an assist against AmaZulu. Linda Mntambo netted a brace, while Andy Boyeli scored the other goal.

The victory against Usuthu moved Sekhukhune to the fifth spot on the league table with 28 points after 17 matches. However, Sekhukhune United hierarchy is believed to be unhappy with the brand of football played at the club and their position on the log after making a huge investment in signing big-name players.

Sekhukhune signed high-profile players such as Thabang Monare, Sipho Mbule, Lesedi Kapinga, Njabulo Ngcobo and Keletso Makgalwa in the off-season.

FARPost understands that Seema will have to claim a victory against the Chilli Boys to avoid the chop at Sekhukhune, at least for now. A defeat could be a final nail to the coffin, while a victory would offer a temporary reprieve.

The Simon-Malatjie-owned team is already lining up Eric Tinkler to replace Seema from the coaching role.

“I think by now we know that Sekhukhune United management is not entirely happy with how the team performs under Lehlohonolo Seema,” a source said.

“Seema could have been fired if he had lost the midweek match against AmaZulu, but that win bought him a bit of time. So the Chippa United match will be crucial in deciding his future, and Eric Tinkler is already waiting on the wings to take over the job.”

Sekhukhune will face Chippa United in the league match at Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday – today, 22 February 2025. Kickoff is at 15h00.
