Baroka stun log-leaders Durban City, Spurs continue desperate relegation fight
Baroka FC stunned log-leaders Durban City FC with a 2-1 victory in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Saturday afternoon, while Cape Town Spurs dropped points against JDR Stars.
The Limpopo-based side prevented Durban City from opening a wider gap at the summit of the log standings.
Durban City are currently sitting top of the table with 37 points in 19 matches. They have won 11 games, drew four and lost four times.
The in-form KZN side, which was previously known as Maritzburg United, is making a serious push to gain automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership next season.
On the other hand, Baroka are sitting sixth on the table with 28 points after walking away with three points against Durban City at home. Bakgakga have seven wins under their name in the league, seven draws and five defeats in 19 matches.
Before facing each other, Baroka and Durban City were participating in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 last weekend. Baroka lost to Orlando Pirates, while Durban City knocked out top-flight side TS Galaxy from the competition.
CAPE TOWN SPURS STRUGGLING TO MOVE OUT OF THE RELEGATION ZONE
Elsewhere, Cape Town Spurs’ chances of moving out of the relegation zone took a knock after playing to a goalless draw against JDR Stars at Soshanguve Giant Stadium on Saturday.
The Urban Warriors are languishing at the 15th position in the NFD after collecting 16 points in 19 games. CT Spurs have managed to register only three league wins, drew seven times and suffered defeat on nine occasions.
Meanwhile, AmaTuks continued to struggle for form in the 2024/25 Championship season after playing to a 0-0 draw against Venda FC at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday. The Tshwane-based side currently occupies the 11th position with 26 points.
