Former PSL striker punching above weight in Tanzania
A former PSL striker is punching above weight in the Tanzanian Premier League, where he is embroiled in a riveting race for the Golden Boot.
Prince Dube, formerly with SuperSport United, has been one of the top performers at Young Africans.
Young Africans are in contention to win the 2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League, where they have been putting in dominant performances week in and week out.
They sit at the summit of the league, with 55 points on their tally, five points ahead of Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC.
So far, Young Africans have played 21 games, while Simba SC have played 19 games. As the race for the title reaches its boiling point, Dube has emerged as one of Yanga’s key contributors.
FORMER PSL STRIKER DUBE IS ONE OF THE LEADING GOALSCORERS IN TANZANIA
The Zimbabwean has scored 10 goals for the Tanzanian giants so far. And he finds himself in an interesting race for the Golden Boot, with nine games remaining before the curtain goes down.
His teammate, Clement Mzize, also sits on ten goals, along with Jean Ahoua of Simba SC, who has the same number of goals.
Lionel Ateba and Elvis Rupia of Simba SC and Singida Big Stars FC, respectively, complete the top five goalscorers with eight goals apiece.
Dube’s impressive form comes as music to the Zimbabwe Warriors coach, Michael Nees, ahead of the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
He joined Yanga in July 2024 from Azam FC after he spent the last part of the 2023/24 season frozen out due to a contractual wrangle.
The former Highlanders striker agreed to a two-year contract, which keeps him at Yanga until July 2026.
The raging dispute between Azam and Dube even reached the Tanzanian Football Federation [TFF]. However, Azam eventually accepted his request to leave on condition that he pays a hefty amount, as they believed he still had two more years left on his contract.
