Durban City FC striker talks on promotion aspects, fine form

Joslin Kamatuka, the red-hot forward for Durban City FC, has spoken about the driving force behind his current form while also tempering talk of his team being promotion favourites.

The club, formerly known as Maritzburg United, are leading the Motsepe Foundation Championship log with 11 matches remaining. The Namibian international has also been in fine form, with 10 goals in the league and one in the Nedbank Cup.

Durban City are currently four points above Orbit College FC who are in second position as the race for promotion to the Betway Premiership gets interesting.

But Kamatuka says the promotion to the Betway Premiership is far from over despite Durban City leading the race.

WHY DURBAN CITY HAVE BEEN CONSISTENT THIS SEASON

“We didn’t get here by luck. We work hard every day as a team and a unit. Our technical team is putting in the extra work for us,” the 33-year-old told FARPost.

High-flying Durban City forward Joslin Kamatuka has opened up on what has inspired his form and played-down promotion favourites tag.

“So it’s all about us continuing to work together and achieving this goal of getting promotion. But we take it one step at a time. It’s still far from over. There are still 11 games to play, and anything can happen. This is the NFD, it’s very difficult, but like I said, with consistency and mental strength, everything will come right.”

WHAT HAS INSPIRED JOSLIN KAMATUKA TO HIT GOOD FORM IN THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP

The former Baroka FC player has also reflected on his current form in the league, saying it’s all about having the right mindset.

“It’s just the mindset. Everything is about the mindset. It’s a mentality; I still have a lot to prove to myself. There are things that I want to achieve in my career, and mentally, I am up for it. So, I need to continue with this form and keep working hard.

“The mindset is key. So wherever we are, the atmosphere, the training, everything is just about mentality. My target is just to do better than I did before. To try and strike every chance I get and, most importantly, to make my team win.”
