Comitis addresses CT City players & staff regarding arrested ex-official
Cape Town City FC chairman John Comitis has addressed his staff and players about the former head of development, Grant Veitch.
Veitch resigned from Betway Premiership side CT City at the end of January with a new job secured. He was arrested and granted bail following his resignation.
However, last week, he was arrested for allegedly misappropriating R32 000. He was taken into custody on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, and appeared in court two days later. The state did not oppose his R5,000 bail.
The proceedings have been postponed for further investigation. Veitch’s legal representatives are expected to submit requests for the dismissal of charges at the next court hearing. He will return to court on June 3, 2025.
WHAT JOHN COMITIS SAID TO HIS STAFF AND PLAYERS ABOUT GRANT VEITCH
CY City boss Comitis confirmed Veitch’s exit through a statement shared via the club’s internal platforms. He further notified staff members, including players, about the arrest and court case, adding that “no one should discuss any matters of CT City with him”.
“We regret to inform you that we have parted ways with Grant Veitch,” reads the statement. “As you may have heard, he has been arrested. The matter is currently before the court, and we do not wish to comment further to protect the integrity of that process.”
The former PSL executive committee member John Comitis further said if Veitch contacts anyone, they must inform the club’s managing director, Michel Comitis. “We request that you do not discuss any matters of CT City with him,” he concluded.
Veitch was instrumental in CT City’s structures, running the development side and being involved in recruitment for many years. He recently landed a job with a top international athlete management agency.
On Sunday, his lawyer, Bruce Hendricks, expressed to FARPost that he believes his client is being mistreated for having left the club.
“Given the fact that the initial amount the complainant mentioned was over R100 000, but on the charge sheet, it’s R32 000. I do think his employers set him up,” explained Hendricks.
