‘He can play anywhere in the world’ Jomo Sono raves about Sekhukhune star
Jomo Cosmos coach and owner Jomo Sono has praised the qualities of a Sekhukhune United star, stating that he can play ‘anywhere in the world’.
Known for producing top talent in SA football, the experienced coach has sold several players to elite clubs in the past years. Jomo has produced household names like Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Morgan Gould, Mxolisi Macuphu, and Gladwin Shitolo.
In addition, the Sekhukhune squad is made up of players who came through Cosmos’ ranks, such as Linda Mntambo, Thabang Monare, Vusumzi Mncube, Chibuike Ohizu, and Vuyo Letlapa.
The legendary Sono recently told FARPost that he enjoys watching Sekhukhune to keep track of how his former players are performing in the Betway Premiership. The ex-Cosmos stars have seemingly made a meaningful impact at Sekhukhune as the club plays one of the most exciting football in the league, with Mntambo leading by example in attack as captain.
At the start of the current campaign, Sono did business with Sekhukhune after selling Letlapa to the Simon-Malatjie-owned team. The talented left-back has wasted no time establishing himself as a regular starter at Babina Noko in his maiden season in the PSL.
Since he arrived at Sekhukhune, Letlapa has featured in 14 matches across all competitions and provided two assists. The 21-year-old has managed to bench Sikhosonke Langa, who also signed at the start of the campaign from AmaTuks.
Letlapa joined Sekhukhune alongside Thabang Monare, Sipho Mbule, Njabulo Ngcobo, Lesedi Kapinga, Keletso Makgalwa, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Lloyd Kazapua, Andy Boyeli, and Sikhosonke Langa.
SEKHUKHUNE’S LETLAPA EARNS PRAISE FROM SONO
Having proven to be one of the best players for the Limpopo-based side this season, Sono has admitted that Letlapa has all the qualities to play football anywhere in the world.
“I went to get Letlapa at Bushbuckridge [Mpumalanga], and I was told that he is a winger. When I first saw him, I was like, ‘There’s no way this guy is a winger’,” Sono told FARPost.
“The first thing I noticed about him when I saw him was he used to cross the ball without looking up to see his options in the box; that’s why I played him in the left-back position. We worked on his weaknesses, and now, when I look at him, he’s a complete player.
“When Sekhukhune got him from us, they got a complete player that is ready to compete at any level. I think Letlapa can play anywhere in the world if you look at his pace, strength, skill, and ability to play accurate crosses.”
Meanwhile, Vuyo Letlapa has reportedly attracted interest from big clubs in the Betway Premiership as a potential signing in the next transfer window.
