Roger De Sa explains decision to turn down Tunisia offer

Ex-Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa has explained the reason behind his decision to turn down an offer to coach the Tunisian national team.

The experienced mentor was in discussion with the Tunisian federation last month about taking over the coaching role; however, the two parties couldn’t reach an agreement.

De Sa has vast experience in coaching national teams after having stints with Bafana Bafana, Egypt, and Qatar.

The former Pirates tactician was offered a contract with his long-time colleague Carlos Queiroz. De Sa was expected to serve as the assistant coach to Quieroz before the deal fell through.

This is the same post that was also offered to Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, who rejected the move to return to his home country. Nabi revealed that he assured the Chiefs management that he’s committed to the project of bringing the Soweto giants back to their glory days.

The highly-rated tactician joined Chiefs at the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season after parting ways with Moroccan side AS FAR.

ROGER DE SA SHEDS LIGHT ON HOW HIS MOVE TO THE TUNISIA NATIONAL TEAM COLLAPSED

After Tunisia appointed Sami Trabelsi as their new head coach over a week ago, De Sa has shed light on how his move to return to the touchline collapsed.

“Look we were in discussion to take over the Tunisian national team job, we had talks and there was an offer, however, the move didn’t happen,” De Sa told FARPost.

“The talks happened last month while Tunisia were still searching for a head coach, but we just couldn’t agree on personal terms. That’s how the move to North Africa failed. I guess I’m available now. I’m not searching for a job, but I’m just waiting for a project that makes sense.

“So I guess the unemployment continues, and obviously, the aim is to take over the job that makes sense for everyone involved.”

In South Africa, De Sa has coached teams such as Ajax Cape Town, Bidvest Wits, Orlando Pirates, Platinum Stars and Cape Umoya United.
