Erasmus makes bold prediction for Sundowns and Chiefs clash

Casric Stars attacker Kermit Erasmus has made a bold prediction for the highly anticipated Betway Premiership encounter between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

Sundowns will face Chiefs in the mouth-watering Betway Premiership match at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon, with kickoff set for 15:30.

The Tshwane giants have already faced Amakhosi twice in the league and Carling Knockout Cup this season.

Sundowns won the league match against Chiefs 2-1 before claiming a resounding 4-0 victory in the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal at the end of last year.

Heading into the tie against the Soweto giants, Sundowns have scored eight goals in their last two matches after beating TS Galaxy and Sekhukhune United 4-1 and 4-2, respectively.

Sundowns are also high on confidence after moving 15 points clear at the summit of the log from second-placed Orlando Pirates. The Miguel Cardoso-coached team has collected 51 points in 19 matches so far, while Pirates are on 36 points after 15 games.

With Sundowns seemingly peaking at the right time, they are on course to win their eighth successive league title. On the other hand, Kaizer Chiefs have been blowing hot and cold as they struggle for consistency under the guidance of Nasreddine Nabi.

The Glamour Boys are occupying the eighth spot on the log standings with 25 points in 18 matches. They won seven matches, drew four and lost on seven occasions.

As Chiefs aim to climb up the table with a win over Sundowns, Erasmus has tipped his former side to hammer the Naturena-based outfit.

“I can say that the match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs will be a challenging one. May the best team win, but I’m going to say Sundowns will win 4-1,” Erasmus said on the Soccer Beat Podcast.

The ex-Bafana Bafana international was in the books of Sundowns between 2020 and 2022. During his stint at Downs, Erasmus scored 10 goals and provided seven assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.
