‘What’s happening to Sundowns is insane’: Miguel Cardoso

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has expressed his discontentment with the club’s tight schedule, stressing that what’s happening to his charges is ‘insane’.

Masandawana claimed an impressive 4-2 victory over Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday night at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Thapelo Morena, Lucas Suarez, Lucas Ribeiro, and Arthur Sales found the back of the net to give Sundowns maximum points against Babina Noko. On the other hand, Katlego Otladisa and Keletso Makgalwa got onto the scoresheet for the Limpopo-based outfit.

The run-away log-leaders Sundowns took their point tally to 51 points in 19 matches in the league. They are 15 points ahead of  Orlando Pirates, who are second on the log standings with 36 points.

Despite Pirates having four games in hand, Sundowns have made a big statement in their push to clinch their eighth successive league title.

Sundowns have faced a tough schedule of fixtures, playing matches every three days. Cardoso has described the Tshwane giants’ schedule as ‘insane’.

The Chloorkop-based side will have only two days to prepare for the big match against Kaizer Chiefs in the league this coming Saturday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

“I’ll repeat this: what’s happening to Sundowns is absolutely insane, the schedule is insane, it’s not normal, and it doesn’t respect human beings,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV.

“So I think this should be thought and well-considered because I don’t know how it’s possible, but we’ll keep alive, we struggle, and we’ll continue pushing.”

Interestingly, this is the second time that the former Esperance mentor has complained about Sundowns’ schedule.

The Portuguese tactician raised the same concern after Sundowns defeated Mpheni Home Defenders 2-0 in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 over a week ago.
