Zwane reveals what AmaZulu FC are ‘trying to rectify’

AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane has revealed what his side is ‘trying to rectify’ as they look to build upon their current league momentum.

Usuthu have demonstrated improved form in the Betway Premiership recently, coming out with three victories, one draw, and suffering one defeat in their last five league fixtures.

This has positioned them sixth in the league standings, having accumulated 26 points from 19 matches played.

While acknowledging positives, Zwane said they aim to reduce the number of goals conceded in order to enhance their overall goal difference.

ZWANE EMPHASISE NEED FOR IMPROVED DEFENCE AT USUTHU

“We did well [in our 3-0 win over Magesi FC], for the fact that we scored three goals because we’re trying to rectify our goal difference,” said Zwane during the club’s media open day on Thursday.

“The good thing was not to concede a goal at all, keep the clean sheet. We’d love to continue from that as well, just to boost the confidence of the goalkeepers and the defence.

“The entire team actually defended very well. As a team, we were also good going forward, though we could have done better in terms of other chances, just to be clinical and ruthless.

“So, I think those are the areas we need to improve on.”

Zwane attributes their recent turnaround to a shift in the players’ mentality. He explained that while the team had been performing well for some time, a mental block was hindering their progress.

AMAZULU COACH ON WHAT’S BEEN BEHIND THEIR TURNAROUND

“We were stuck at the bottom [of the log] simply because of the performances that we displayed in the past,” he added.

“It’s not that the performances were not good enough for us to get maximum points. The results fluctuated, and it was a matter of luck as well. Sometimes, you create your own luck when you put a lot of emphasis and focus on something.

“It was more mental than anything else, not that the team was doing badly. From the previous coach before we took over myself and coach Kanu [Vusumuzi Vilakazi]. The team was doing well, creating chances, they were just unfortunate.

“We worked on their minds to say forget about the past. Right now, we’re not even thinking about 26 points that we have accumulated, we are thinking about the next three points that can make a difference for us.”
