CT Spurs move out relegation, Durban City return to winning ways
Cape Town Spurs moved out of the relegation zone in the Motsepe Foundation Championship after claiming a hard-fought victory over Highbury FC, while Durban City FC returned to winning ways.
CT Spurs collected maximum points after beating Highbury 2-1 at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Friday afternoon. The much-needed three points moved the Urban Warriors to the 14th position on the log standings.
The Cape Town-based outfit has been struggling to impose themselves in the NFD after being relegated from the Betway Premiership last season.
As the season is nearing the end, Spurs have only managed to collect 19 points in 20 league matches. They won four games, drew seven and lost nine times.
CT Spurs have 10 games remaining to avoid relegation to the ABC Motsepe League in the next campaign.
DURBAN CITY RETURN TO WINNING WAYS WITH A WIN OVER HUNGRY LIONS
Elsewhere, log-leaders Durban City FC returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win against Hungry Lions FC at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington on Saturday.
The KZN-based side maintained their advantage at the summit of the league table after taking their points tally to 40 points and 20 matches.
Before taking all three points against Hungry Lions, Durban City suffered a 1-0 loss to Baroka FC last weekend at Global Stadium.
Meanwhile, Upington City FC snatched a narrow 1-0 win over Casric Stars at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga on Friday. Upington are currently occupying the 11th position on the log with 26 points.
In addition, Pretoria Callies were not in action as their opponent Milford FC were involved in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 match against Sekhukhune United this weekend.
