Nabi reveals ‘the only thing’ he envies from Sundowns team
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed “the only thing” that he would like to have from what rivals Mamelodi Sundowns possess.
Nabi’s troops suffered a 1-0 defeat to Masandawana on Saturday, 1 March, at the sold-out Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.
A first-half strike from Brazilian forward Lucas Ribeiro Costa proved decisive in what, at times, seemed like a tightly contested Betway Premiership encounter.
Meanwhile, this was a third loss for Nabi at the hands of Sundowns since he took charge of the Phefeni Glamour Boys at the start of the season.
Previous encounters saw his side fall 2-1 in a league fixture and suffer a heavy 4-0 defeat in the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal.
After the match on Saturday, Nabi was asked if there were any lessons he could glean from Sundowns’ playing style and consistent success that he could implement in his team.
He said, “It was a tactical game today, it was like a chess game. And honestly, no, no [there’s nothing to copy from Sundowns game].”
The Tunisian tactician feels the two teams are different in terms of the type of players they have.
He then pinpointed “squad depth” as the “the only thing” he covets from the Sundowns set up.

“I feel like we have different players, different materials. They have a lot of midfielders, we have wingers that are [tricky], so we have different ideas and materials,” he added.
“The only thing I would like to have from what Sundowns have is the number of players that they have…depth in their squad.”
Following their loss on Saturday, Chiefs sit eighth in the league standings with 25 points accumulated from 19 league games so far.
The Soweto giants will be looking to bounce back on Tuesday, 4 March in another league outing against Magesi FC at 7:30 PM.
