Polokwane City reveal CAF Inter-club ambitions
Polokwane City FC head coach Phuti Mohafe says they are surprised that they are fighting for a top-three finish, but if it means qualifying for CAF Inter-club competitions, that’s what they are aiming for.
‘Rise and Shine’ are having one of their great seasons so far and have been consistently in the top four. With 10 matches to go, the club has a chance to better their best finish in the Betway Premiership.
Their best finish was during the 2018/19 season when they finished fifth. Surprisingly, the club was relegated the following year. Speaking after the 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC on Friday, Mohafe says now that playing in competitions like the CAF Confederation Cup is a possibility, and that’s what they are gunning for.
PLAYING IN CAF INTER-CLUB COMPETITIONS REMAINS A DREAM FOR RISE AND SHINE
“Anything is possible in life, so if that appears to happen. Then let it be; let’s go and fight as Polokwane City,” said Mohafe.
“No one can do that if we can’t, and we will never know if we can’t try it. So we will rather go and try; we see where we fail, and we see where we progress.
“Honestly speaking. Last season, we surprised ourselves when we qualified for the top eight. Even now, we are so surprised that we are fighting for the third spot. I think with us being there, that triggered the mentality of saying, you can do it. Then why not? Let’s try to fight for it,” he added.
CAN PHUTI MOHAFE AND POLOKWANE CITY IMPROVE THEIR RECORD IN THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP?
Meanwhile, Polokwane City are just three wins away from equaling their best win tally in a single season. They finished the season with 11 wins in 2019. In the same season, they finished the league with 44 points, which is their best point tally.
