‘He’s our heartbeat’ – Arthur Zwane on AmaZulu FC star
AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has singled out a player who orchestrates “everything” in Usuthu’s game as the team continues to maintain its strong momentum.
Zwane led the KZN side as the sole head coach for the first time this past weekend following the exit of Vusumuzi Vilakazi, who resigned from his position as co-coach last week.
AmaZulu defeated Cape Town City FC 2-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Sunday, with goals from Elmo Kambindu and Nkosikhona Radebe.
Speaking after the match, Zwane lauded Bongani Zungu’s influential role in the team, stating that the veteran midfielder runs the show for the in-form Usuthu.

“We had to rest Bongani for the next game because he’s our heartbeat, he’s a thinker,” said Zwane explaining the substitution of Zungu against Cape Town City.
“He’s the one that controls everything at the moment. And the other guys – [Ethan] Brooks, [Rowan] Human, they play with energy because they are still young.
“You can’t expect them to play like Bongani, you know, Bongani is the one who controls everything, the rhythm in our game.”
Zungu joined AmaZulu in December on a free transfer after being unattached for an extended period of time following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.
He quickly established himself as a regular starter and a key man for the Sandile Zungu-owned side after making his club debut against Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership in January.
Since then, ‘Ben 10’, as he’s widely known in the football community, has made ten appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal in the process.
He’ll be looking to continue his strong form when AmaZulu face SuperSport United on Wednesday, 5 March at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, with kickoff set for 7:30 PM.
AmaZulu are fifth on the league standings after racking up 29 points from 20 matches thus far.
