‘Ribeiro is a dream to every coach’ – Nasreddine Nabi

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has admitted that Mamelodi Sundowns star Lucas Ribeiro Costa is a player any coach would love to have.

Chiefs suffered a 1-0 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership on Saturday at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

In an entertaining match, the Naturena-based side was punished by a brilliant strike from Lucas Ribeiro, who scored his 12th league goal this season.

Amakhosi’s defeat against Sundowns was their second loss in a row after being thrashed 4-1 by SuperSport United at FNB Stadium over a week ago.

After losing against Masandawana, Chiefs are sitting eighth on the league table with 29 points in 19 matches played. They won seven matches, drew four and lost eight times.

On the other hand, the Brazilians are sitting comfortably at the summit of the log with 54 points in 20 games. They are currently leading the chasing side, Orlando Pirates, by 18 points.

Following Chiefs’ nail-biting clash against Sundowns, Nabi has praised Ribeiro’s qualities, stating that every coach would wish to have such a player in their team.

The left-footed forward has scored 30 goals and provided 19 in 68 appearances across all competitions since joining Downs in July 2023.

“It’s true that he [Ribeiro] is a player that every coach would want to have in his team because he’s a difference maker,” said Nabi.

“So it’s good to have those kind of foreign players in the league because it allows the league to be more attractive to sponsors and people who are watching. And besides being a very good player, he’s a good human being, very nice human being.”

Meanwhile, Chiefs will be aiming to walk away with positive results when they face Magesi FC at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, 04 March 2025.
