Late win for Richards Bay, CT City’s misery continues

Richards Bay FC delivered a dramatic late 2-1 win over Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership, while Cape Town City FC’s winless streak stretched to six games with a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy.

Sekhukhune, who had been enjoying a strong run of form in their pursuit of a top-three league finish, entered the match following a 4-2 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last Wednesday.

Notably, Sekhukhune did not play in the league over the weekend, having instead participated in the Nedbank Cup Last 16 against Milford FC. They successfully advanced to the Nedbank quarterfinal, where they are set to face Sundowns again at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

In the match against Richards Bay, Sekhukhune were quick to impose themselves, creating all sorts of problems for the Natal Rich Boys.

The Lehlohonolo Seema-coached team opened the scoring on the eight-minute mark, thanks to a clean finish from Chibuike Ohizu. In the second stanza, Richards Bay brought the scoreline back to level terms after Fezile Gcaba found the back of the net. Thabiso Kutumela scored a 90-minute winner for Bay to collect all three points.

Elsewhere, TS Galaxy and Cape Town City FC played to a 1-1 draw at Athlone Stadium. The Citizens drew first blood after finding the back of the net through Darwin González, whereas Mlungisi Mbunjana got on the score sheet for Galaxy.

Galaxy travelled to Cape Town to face City, having claimed an impressive 2-0 win over Golden Arrows at Mbombela Stadium in their last game.

Meanwhile, City have hit by a slump under the leadership of Muhsin Ertugral as they are winless in their last six matches. They lost 2-0 against AmaZulu FC in their previous match at King Zwelithini Stadium last Sunday.

In another league encounter on Wednesday night, SuperSport United and AmaZulu FC shared the spoils after playing to a goalless draw at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
