Mngqithi secures draw against former employers, Sundowns

Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi secured a 1-1 draw against his former employers, Mamelodi Sundowns in a Betway Premiership tie at Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday night.

MANQOBA MNGQITHI BATTLED OUT WITH HIS FORMER CLUB MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Manqoba Mngqithi locked horns with his former club, Masandawana, in his first game following his return to the KZN side – Arrows.

Mngqithi re-joined Arrows two days ago after spending a few months without a club following his departure from Sundowns in December 2024.

The highly rated coach, Mngqithi, returns to Abafana Bes’thende for his third stint.

VELEMSENI NDWANDWE REACHES HIS 150TH GAME FOR GOLDEN ARROWS

The experienced midfielder, Velemseni Ndwandwe, made his 150th appearance for Arrows against the PSL defending champions.

Ndwandwe rose through Arrows’ development ranks and has never looked back since then. He was promoted to the first team in December 2016 from the club’s reserve side.

DENIS ONYANGO RETURNS BETWEEN THE STICKS

Jody February found himself on the bench as Denis Onyango returned between the ticks tonight.

Onyango missed Sundowns’ last two games due to suspension after he received a red card in a league game against Marumo Gallants a fortnight ago. It was his second red card of the season.

Arrows’ Keegan Phillips broke the deadlock in the 31st minute of the showpiece to give the KZN club the lead.

However, the Betway Premiership Player of the Month for February, Lucas Ribeiro, leveled matters from the spot kick in the 44th minute of the contest. Phillips gave away the penalty.

Ribeiro is currently the top goal-scorer in the SA elite league with 13 goals from 19 league appearances. To top it off, he also boasts six assists in the league.
