Sundowns dominate February’s PSL Awards
Mamelodi Sundowns demonstrated their continued strength in the league, with the February monthly awards reflecting their overall dominance.
Masandawana head coach Miguel Cardoso has been named the Coach of the Month, with Lucas Ribeiro clinching Player of the Month.
Ribeiro also won the Goal of the Month accolade for his brilliant goal against Orlando Pirates.
This marks the second accolade for both Cardoso and Ribeiro in the current 2024/25 Betway Premiership season. Cardoso, who has had a fantastic start at the Chloorkop-based outfit, led his team to six victories in seven games.
In those seven matches under the tutelage of Cardoso in February, the side accumulated a remarkable 18 out of a possible 21 points.
Cardoso won the award against the formidable competition from AmaZulu FC’s then co-coaches, Arthur Zwane and Vusumuzi Vilakazi, along with Ronnie Gabriel of Richards Bay FC, who all performed outstandingly well last month.
LUCAS RIBEIRO WINS TWO BETWAY PREMIERSHIP AWARDS
Ribeiro was rewarded with the award of best player for the month following his involvement in eight goals for Sundowns. He scored five goals and contributed three assists.
The forward from Brazil was competing against Sekhukhune United’s midfielder, Keletso Makgalwa, and his teammate, Iqraam Rayners, in the category of the Player of the Month.
“In addition to being voted the best player for the month, Ribeiro’s solo run in Sundowns’ victory over Orlando Pirates in Tshwane was voted the best goal of the month, marking Ribeiro’s second successive award in the category after winning it in the January period,” reads the PSL statement.
“Ribeiro’s goal emerged victorious over Tshegofatso Nyama’s clinical free kick against Golden Arrows in Cape Town, as well as Shaun Mogaila’s wonder strike against Chippa United in East London.”
