Willard Katsande’s message to Chiefs star: ‘Keep it up, my son’
Former Kaizer Chiefs stalwart Willard Katsande has offered words of encouragement to an Amakhosi midfielder, delivering a warm message.
Katsande’s remarks followed Chiefs’ hard-fought 1-0 victory over Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night in Soweto.
This win marked a return to winning ways for Amakhosi, who had previously suffered consecutive defeats against SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns.
As a result of securing their eighth victory of the league campaign, Chiefs maintained their eighth-place position with 28 points, level with TS Galaxy. However, they remain eight points behind the coveted second-place spot, which would see them qualify for the CAF Champions League.
Chiefs legend Katsande believes Ngcobo, whom he considers his ‘son,’ played a crucial role in the club’s win over Dikwena tša Meetse, despite being deployed in an unfamiliar position.
Ngcobo, typically an attacking midfielder and playmaker, was utilised in a deeper, defensive midfield role, where he performed well.
With the score still tied at 0-0, coach Nasreddine Nabi replaced his captain Yusuf Maart with Ngcobo in the 65th minute. The left-footed midfielder’s presence helped Chiefs maintain possession, which contributed to their subsequent goal.
NGCOBO RECEIVES PRAISE FROM KATSANDE
On his official Instagram account, Katsande praised Ngcobo’s performance, stating, “The few minutes he got last night were UNBELIEVABLE. He controlled the tempo of the game very well.” He concluded his message with, “Keep it up my son”, accompanied by a heart emoji and a ‘love and peace’ sign.
But despite being tipped as a future star upon his promotion to the Chiefs first team eight years ago, Ngcobo has yet to fully realise his potential. This season, he has seen limited playing time under coach Nasreddine Nabi.
The 25-year-old has made only one league start thus far. His total appearances across all competitions amount to seven, indicating a significant lack of consistent game time.
