With one key improvement, Nabi sees Bafana future for Chiefs attacker

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi believes one of his players could be a “starter” for Bafana Bafana if he improves one element in his game.

The Tunisian tactician was speaking after his side beat Magesi FC 1-0 in a Betway Premiership encounter on Tuesday night at the FNB Stadium in Soweto.

With this victory, Amakhosi returned to winning ways after suffering two defeats on the trot at the hands of Tshwane teams SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Chiefs had to work for their triumph against Dikwena tša Meetse, scoring a late goal via Ashley Du Preez to snatch maximum points.

As the match drew to a close, they failed to convert a few chances to double their lead. Crucially, in the 92nd minute, Pule Mmodi was denied by the post after a golden opportunity.

The 32-year-old winger has been criticised in the past for his often underwhelming finishing and passing abilities in the final third.

Nabi says they are diligently working to help Mmodi improve in this area. They believe that if he overcomes this weakness, he can become a regular starter for Bafana Bafana.

NABI SAYS MMODI HAS POTENTIAL TO BECOME A BAFANA STARTER

“We work with him on his finishing. We believe that if he improves on that, he’s going to be a very big player,” said Nabi. “That’s because he’s a player that gives you a lot of things, defensively, offensively, 1v1 one and attacking [wise].

“And if he improves that thing [finishing], it’s a click. When it clicks, we believe he can even be a starter in the Bafana Bafana [team],” added Nabi.

Mmodi has been enjoying a lot of game time under Nabi this season. He has made 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals in the process.

He joined the Phefeni Glamour Boys from Golden Arrows at the start of the 2023/24 season.
