Kaizer Chiefs reward promising talent with new contract

Kaizer Chiefs have rewarded one of their promising talents, Kabelo Nkgwesa, with a new contract after impressing in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC].

The highly-rated youngster has been key for Amakhosi’s DDC side as they are fighting to clinch the title in the reserve league.

Chiefs’ reserve team is currently sitting second on the log standings with 42 points after 18 games. The Soweto giants are two points away from log leaders Stellenbosch FC, who have collected 44 points in 20 DDC matches played.

Nkgwesa is a talented left-back with significant defensive qualities and also offers impressive attacking abilities with his pace.

The 19-year-old could soon be in the Chiefs’ first team after the club lost defender, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who signed with Libyan giants Al Ittihad in the January transfer window.

Following Ditlhokwe’s exit, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi revealed that his side needs a specialist in the left-back position.

The Glamour Boys currently have Bongani Sam, Happy Mashiane, Edmilson Dove and Bradley Cross competing for the left wing-back position. Ditlhokwe, a natural centre-back, also played in the left-back position.

In the current campaign, Nabi has preferred Cross, as he featured in 18 matches across all competitions; however, in the past two games, Dove has been starting at left-back after recovering from his injury setback.
