Pirates to be without key defender for SuperSport clash

Orlando Pirates will be without a key defender for their Nedbank Cup quartefinal clash against SuperSport United on Saturday, 8 March 2025.

Pirates are set to face Matsatsantsa at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 15:00.

The Buccaneers’ head coach Jose Riveiro will need to adjust his squad to find a suitable replacement for the suspended player for the important cup match.

Pirates will be hoping to secure a win against SuperSport to keep their dream of winning the Nedbank Cup title for the third time in a row alive.

WHO’S THE SUSPENDED ORLANDO PIRATES DEFENDER

The key suspended Pirates player in question is defender Nkosinathi Sibisi, who will be out for one game after receiving his fourth yellow card for simulation in the  Chippa United game on Wednesday in the league.

Sibisi was on the scoresheet when the Soweto giants defeated the Chilli Boys 1-0 in a Betway Premiership encounter.

The 29-year-old has been delivering stellar performances for the Sea Robbers this season. So far, Sibisi has featured in 25 games for the Jose Riveiro-coached side across all competitions.

Thabiso Sesane, who plays as centre-back, is currently nursing his injury. This means Olisa Ndah, who just returned from injury, is most likely to partner with Tapelo Xoki at the centre-back.

When the club provided injury updates yesterday, Pirates confirmed that Ndah is back to full training. The Nigerian international spent some time on the sidelines due to an injury.

Meanwhile, SuperSport will lock horns with Pirates without their head coach Gavin Hunt, who has been suspended. Hunt recently celebrated his 1000th league game milestone as a coach in the SA top-flight.
