Sekhukhune United show Seema exit door

Sekhukhune United have pulled the trigger and shown their head coach Lehlohonolo Seema the exit door following their defeat to Richards Bay FC. Babina Noko suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in the Betway Premiership against Bay at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.

Sekhukhune were the first to open the scoring after Chibuike Ohizu hit the back of the net in the first half. The Natal Rich Boys came from a goal down to collect maximum points with goals from Fezile Gcaba and a last-minute free-kick from Thabiso Kutumela.

Meanwhile, Seema has been a subject of speculation in the past few months despite guiding Sekhukhune to the fourth spot in the league so far with 31 points. Under the guidance of former Orlando Pirates captain this season, Sekhukhune won nine league games, drew four and lost seven times in 20 matches.

With 10 matches left before the end of the season, Sekhukhune have decided to cut ties with Lehlohonolo Seema. This is the second time the Limpopo-based side axed Seema after firing him towards the end of last season.

The former Chippa United mentor was brought back to the club at the start of the current campaign to replace Peter Hyballa, who was at the club for only a few months.

Interestingly, Eric Tinkler is already waiting on the wings to replace Seema after being offered a job in the past few weeks. Tinkler is set to steer the ship at Sekhukhune after parting ways with Cape Town City FC in December 2024. The 54-year-old coach was also fired at City after a dismal start to the season.

After firing Tinkler, the Citizens brought in Muhsin ErtuÄŸral to take over the coaching role for the remainder of the season. However, he has also struggled to turn the corner as City is sitting 10th on the log with 22 points.

SEKHUKHUNE CONFIRM SEEMA’S DEPARTURE

In a statement released on Thursday, Sekhukhune confirmed that they parted ways with Seema while also announcing that Kaitano Tembo and Paulus Masehe will lead the team going forward.

Tembo and Masehe served as the two assistant coaches during Seema’s time with the Simon Malatjie-owned team.
