Sibusiso Mabiliso cites mental health for Baroka exit
Former Baroka FC defender Sibusiso Mabiliso has opened up on how his mental health led to his exit from the club. Mabiliso recently parted ways with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side after a six-month stint.
The former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC left-back featured in 10 matches in all competitions for the Limpopo-based club. He is now a free agent but can only be registered by another club for the next season.
“It was a personal one which had a lot to do with my mental health,” the 25-year-old told FARPost.
“So I had to choose whether I stay and continue grinding or I choose my mental health. So, I decided to leave because my mental health comes first. I was not in a good state of my health.”
SIBUSISO MABILISO EXPLAINS WHY HE HAD TO LEAVE BAROKA FC
Mabiliso says his stay at Baroka was a fruitful one despite having its own challenges.
“At first when I got here, I didn’t know a lot of people. But I’d say they gave me a warm welcome. They made me feel at home. I created friends,” he said.
“We have shared great memories, on and off the field. So, overall, I would say my stay was not bad, although it had its own challenges at some point. But overall, my stay wasn’t bad.”
He also confirms that he will use the remainder of the season to keep fit unless an opportunity to train with a team arises.
“I will be at home. I will also be doing gym work so that I can keep myself fit and be ready for pre-season. But if I get a chance to train with one of the top flight teams, I will be open to that.”
