‘He has way more goals in him’: SuperSport coach on Chiefs striker
SuperSport United assistant coach Andre Arendse has spoken glowingly about the qualities of Kaizer Chiefs striker Christian Saile, currently on loan, suggesting that the player’s goal tally will continue to rise.
Saile joined SuperSport United on loan from Chiefs during the 2025 January transfer in a swap deal that saw Matsantsantsa striker Tashreeq Morris go in the opposite direction.
The left-footed attacker has seemingly gained his confidence at SuperSport after scoring on his debut against Magesi FC in the Nedbank Cup.
So far, in SuperSport colours, Saile has featured in eight matches across all competitions and scored two goals. One of his goals came against his parent club when Matsatsantsa hammered Chiefs 4-1 in the Betway Premiership a fortnight ago.
Before joining SuperSport on loan, Saile struggled to find his best form in front of goals after failing to open his scoring account for the 2024/25 season at Chiefs.
In the first round of the current season, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi preferred Wandile Duba, Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley Du Preez as his attacking options.
WHAT ANDRE ARENDSE SAID ABOUT SAILE
Having established himself as a regular starter at the Tshwane-based side, Arendse says Saile is thriving on the confidence from the technical team, and he will score more goals.
“There’s a lot of quality in Christian, and we needed to find his quality when he first came and look at him in different positions to see where he’s most comfortable,” Arendse said.
“For example, if you saw the game against Kaizer Chiefs, he played out some really good wing play. You can see with the goal he scored where he joined from wider areas, exposing their defence at times.
“And that’s where he’s at his best, he’s a very strong player because he can hold up play and hold people off. He’s got an eye for goal; what we’ve discovered is that he bounces off confidence.
“If you show confidence in a player like that, he’s ready and willing to give his all. So he’s going through a little bit of up and down at the moment, performance-wise.
“The job that we have ahead of us is to get him into a consistent mode, and once we do that, I think he’s a striker that will fire in all cylinders. If he continues like that with a good attitude and mindset, I think he will have way more goals in him by he end of the season.”
