Arendse on Chiefs loanee Jansen’s SuperSport struggles
SuperSport United assistant coach, Andre Arendse, has addressed the challenges faced by Kaizer Chiefs loanee, Donay Jansen, at the Tshwane side.
The 21-year-old joined SuperSport on a season-long loan from Chiefs at the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership. The loan move was aimed at affording the youngster enough game-time.
However, has has struggled to break into the starting line-up at SuperSport under the guidance of coach Gavin Hunt. Jansen has only featured in three appearances across all competitions, all as a second-half substitute.
The right winger is competing with experienced players such as Gamphani Lungu, Vincent Pule, Christian Saile, and Enoch Quaicoe for a position in the starting line-up.
ANDRE ARENDSE ATTRIBUTE DONAY JANSEN’S STRUGGLES TO FITNESS
After missing a handful of matches in SuperSport colours, Arendse has revealed that Jansen is struggling with fitness to catch up with the rest of the squad.
Jansen was promoted to the Chiefs senior team at the end of last season after impressing in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC]. The promising talent was handed his Amakhosi debut by the then-interim coach Cavin Johnson against Polokwane City FC in the league.
“As for Donay, when he first came to the club, I was very excited with what he could bring because we saw a very good wing player,” Arendse said. “It’s just that he hasn’t been able to crack on his fitness; he needs a lot of work on his fitness. We’ve picked that up on the training ground.
“The natural skill and ability from Donay is ridiculous; he just needs to find a perfect balance with his fitness level and how he can integrate that with his ability to play the game. So we’re working on him every day, he’s responding to it, and hopefully his game-time will come sooner than later.”
Jansen is running out of time to make a meaningful impact as his loan spell at Matsatsantsa expires at the end of the current season.
