Ashley Du Preez on facing Stellenbosch post-injury

Kaizer Chiefs attacker Ashley Du Preez, back from injury, has shared his thoughts on facing Stellenbosch FC, his former club, in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal on Saturday.

Amakhosi are set to take on the Cape Winelands-based outfit at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, 8 March. The kick-off for this showdown is at 18:00.

This year already, the Glamour Boys have completed a league double over the Stellies. On January 8th, Chiefs beat Steve Barker’s coached side 2-1 at FNB Stadium, whereas on February 7th, the Soweto giants also walked away victorious 1-0 away from home.

Chiefs will be hoping to get a third win in a row against Stellenbosch as they want to go all out to the Nedbank Cup finals to break their nine-year trophy drought.

ASHLEY DU PREEZ LOOKING FORWARD FACING STELLENBOSCH FC

Du Preez, who recently recovered from an injury and netted a goal on Tuesday when Chiefs triumphed over Magesi FC 1-0 in the Betway Premiership match, states that they are aiming for a victory despite acknowledging it won’t be easy.

“Getting onto the field after coming back from injury and scoring the winning goal and the three points is exceptional, and I am very happy,” said Du Preez. “Injuries are part of the game, but it’s a question of how you bounce back, and I am just delighted and relieved to be fit again.

“It’s always nice to play against a former team. There’s a familiarity with their structures and the way they play. Going into a cup game is a very different approach from a league match. We have to get a positive result on the day so we are going out to win and get through to the semifinals.”

“We take one step at a time. Obviously, we haven’t won a trophy for some time, and our intention is to go all the way to the final and win. For now, though, our focus is 100 percent on beating Stellenbosch and nothing else.”

Du Preez continued: “We are extra focused on this weekend’s match because it’s our only realistic chance of winning silverware. This is a very important game in the context of our season.”
