Keegan Allan linked with two Betway Premiership teams

Richards Bay FC defender Keegan Allan has become a target of two Betway Premiership clubs following his impressive performances this season. Stellenbosch FC and Sekhukhune United are reportedly eyeing Allan as they are eager to boost their central defence options.

Stellies anticipate the departure of Ivorian defender Ismael Toure and are proactively planning for his exit. Toure’s efforts to get a move ahead of the 2024/25 season hit a snag. The 27-year-old could still push for an exit in the next transfer window.

On the other hand, Babina Noko have reportedly identified former Mamelodi Sundowns and Pretoria University defender, Allan, as a key target.

Allan is currently in the books of Richards Bay FC, having joined them after a short stint with SuperSport United. He had a six-month spell at Matsatsantsa, leaving by mutual consent at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

While with Gavin Hunt’s charges, he made nine Betway Premiership appearances and two in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Prior to the SuperSport switch, he played for Moroka Swallows. Despite significant internal turmoil, the 24-year-old’s tenure at Swallows was marked by consistent performance. The club’s decision to terminate the contracts of 22 players, stemming from disciplinary proceedings, resulted in Allan’s departure.

WHY STELLENBOSCH FC AND SEKHUKHUNE UNITED ARE KEEN ON ALLAN

His ability as both a centre-back and right-back enhances his appeal. He has been a consistent presence at the KZN outfit, starting all 22 matches across competitions and establishing himself as a pivotal figure in the central defensive line.

This consistent performance has attracted the attention of the two clubs, who are both seeking to fortify their defensive ranks.

Babina Noko’s defensive structure has relied heavily on the experience of 36-year-old captain Daniel Cardoso, who has partnered with Tresor Tshibwabwa and Katlego Mohamme, while Njabulo Ngcobo has seen limited playing time. Cardoso has featured in 17 matches, Tshibwabwa in 21, and Mohamme in 10.

Allan’s acquisition would bring significant competition to the current central defenders. However, Richards Bay FC are expected to do everything to retain their highly valued defender’s services.
