Semifinal showdowns set: Chiefs and Pirates discover Nedbank Cup foes

PSL have confirmed the mouth-watering Nedbank Cup semifinal matches, with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates learning their fate. The draw was staged on Sunday evening after the Durban City FC and Marumo Gallants tie at Chartswoth Stadium in Durban.

The quarterfinal matchups took place on the weekend of the 8th and 9th of March 2025, as the competition is nearing its climax.

Pirates and SuperSport United kicked off the encounters of the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals after the two sides clashed at the Old Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.

The Buccaneers were made to sweat by SuperSport before booking a place in the last four of the Nedbank. Pirates and SuperSport played to a thrilling 2-2 draw in 120 minutes before the Ghosts won the tie 5-4 on penalties.

Pirates are looking to win the NedbankCup for the third successive season after winning the last two editions of the tournament.

In another fascinating encounter on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs powered their way into the semifinal with a 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.

Amakhosi opened the scoring through Inacio Miguel on the penalty spot before Andre De Jong brought the score back to 1-1.

PULE MMODI’S CONTROVERSIAL GOAL EARN CHIEFS A SPOT IN THE SEMIFINAL

In the dying minutes of the second-half, Chiefs scored a controversial goal courtesy of Pule Mmodi, who looked to have impeded Stellenbosch goalie Sage Stephens.

The referee, Sikhumbuzo Gaza, awarded Chiefs with the goal as the Soweto giants took the lead against Stellenbosch. Mfundo Vilakazi put the final nail in Stellenbosch’s coffin after scoring the third goal to give the Glamour Boys a 3-1 win.

Meanwhile, the match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United that was scheduled to take place at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday was postponed due to the unavailability of the match venue.

On Sunday, Marumo Gallants locked horns with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side Durban City FC at Chartswoth Stadium in the last match of the quarterfinals.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa beat Durban City 4-1 on penalties after the match finished 0-0 during the 120 minutes.
