DDC: Chiefs back at summit as Sundowns suffer defeat
Kaizer Chiefs returned to the summit of the DDC table after a win over Marumo Gallants, while Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their fourth defeat this season.
Amakhosi triumphed over Bahlabane Ba Ntwa with a decisive 3-0 victory on Saturday at Seshego Stadium, situated just outside Polokwane in Limpopo.
Naledi Hlongwane, in impressive form, continued his goal-scoring streak, netting his eighth goal of the season. Siyabonga Gumede and Imaad Hendricks contributed the other two goals for the Phefeni Glamour Boys.
This win propelled Chiefs back to the top of the league standings, having collected 45 points after 19 matches. Their season record now stands at 14 wins, three draws, and two losses.
The following day, the Brazilians experienced a disappointment, suffering a 1-0 defeat against Magesi FC at the same venue in Polokwane. This result extended their winless streak to three matches.
The Tshwane-based outfit subsequently dropped to fifth position in the league standings, having accumulated 39 points from 20 games played.
Stellenbosch FC, who were on top of the table prior to this weekend’s fixtures, did not play this weekend due to the suspension of Royal AM.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates edged out Golden Arrows with a 1-0 victory, marking their fifth straight win.
Sea Robbers’ head coach Joseph Makhanya elaborated on why claiming all three points against Arrows was crucial.
PIRATES COACH MAKHANYA – WHY WIN AGAINST ARROS WAS IMPORTANT
“If you were to check, last week, we had to play [a big game] against Stellenbosch. So, it drained a lot of energy out of us,” said Makhanya after the game.
“So we knew that coming this side now, we knew we wouldn’t have maybe the same energy as last week because we played a big match [against Stellenbosch].
“Now, coming to Arrows, we wanted to make sure that at least we get the three points that we needed.”
