Mngqithi makes revelation about clubs that wanted him before Arrows move

Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has made a revelation about the clubs that wanted him prior to returning to Abafana Bes’thende.

The Umzimkhulu-born coach returned to the KZN side for his third stint following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns in December. He had spent ten years with Masandawana, having joined them in 2014 initially as an assistant coach under Pitso Mosimane.

Before re-joining Arrows, Mngqithi was reportedly sought after in North Africa, with an Egyptian club showing “serious interest”, according to his representative Mike Makaab.

Explaining his decision to return to Arrows, Mngqithi revealed that the clubs that showed interest in him wanted his services for the 2025/26 season.

When Arrows made their proposal this past weekend, Mngqithi said it was difficult to turn down the club that gave him a breakthrough in top-flight football.

MNGQITHI ON CLUBS THAT SHOWED INTEREST – ‘THEY WANTED ME FOR NEXT SEASON’

“Most of the clubs that showed interest wanted me for the next season,” said Mngqithi on Prime Time Sport with Victor Molefe on Ukhozi FM.

“One of the clubs showed interest in the last minute, unfortunately, I had received the call from sis [Mato Madlala].

“It was going to be difficult for me to go there [to that club] having been asked by Arrows to come and help because if there’s a last thing I want to see would be seeing Arrows in a problem while I have a way to help them.

“I took a decision to come and help Arrows because I thought it’s a more emergent decision I had to take.”

He added: “It didn’t take me so much time to think. I had to help when they asked me to come. This team gave me an opportunity when nobody else would have done that. I’m owing them, and I have to do whatever they want me to do.”
