Ashley Du Preez reacts to Chiefs contract renewal
Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley Du Preez has reacted to his contract renewal at the club. Du Preez recently penned a new two-year deal, which will keep him at the club until June 2027.
Although the club is yet to announce, Du Preez had his say on the development when asked about it during Amakhosi’s media open day on Monday morning in Naturena. The Cape Town-born forward joined the club two seasons ago from Stellenbosch FC.
Since joining the club, he has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 75 appearances in all competitions.
WHAT ASHLEY DU PREEZ SAID ABOUT THE NEW CONTRACT
“To be honest, I’ve heard that they’re going to renew my contract,” Du Preez said. “For me it’s to [work hard]… they trust me. For me, it’s to give back to them, the club. And to work on getting a better contract as a player. So, for me, it’s to give back to the club.”
In the absence of the injured Wandile Duba and Tashreeq Morris, Chiefs are placing their trust on Du Preez. The striker was on target in a 1-0 win over Magesi FC last week in the league.
Amakhosi, buoyed by their weekend win over Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup, welcome Cape Town City FC at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night. Kick off is 19h30. Chiefs, who stormed into the semifinal of the Nedbank Cup, are eager to move up the Betway Premiership table.
The Nasreddine Nabi-coached side is currently eighth as they chase a CAF Confederation Cup spot. They are just three points behind third-placed Stellenbosch FC.
If they entertain any hopes of booking a berth in the CAF club competition, they have to collect maximum points against City.
The Citizens, also eager for three points, have not won a game in the last eight. They beat the Glamour Boys 1-0 in the reverse fixture in Cape Town early in January.
