Carnell keeps his merciless MLS run as Foster rediscovers his form

Bradley Carnell kept his merciless MLS run, while Lyle Foster rediscovered his form in a weekend that was indifferent for SA stars abroad.

Lyle Foster scored his third goal of the season in all competitions during Burnley FC’s 4-0 victory over Luton Town in an England Championship match. This match was played at the Turf Moor on Saturday.

In the USA, Bradley Carnell’s reign at the helm of Major League Soccer Philadelphia Union continues to flow smoothly after recording their third straight win this season.

On Sunday morning, they beat New England 2-0, with Tai Baribo and Jovan Lukic on target. In addition, the match was played at Gillette Stadium, New England’s home ground.

Former Stellenbosch FC defender Olwethu Makhanya kept his place in the team, where he partnered with Jakob Glesnes.

Furthermore, Philadelphia Union are the only team with a flawless record as they sit at the summit of the MLS Eastern Conference with nine points after three matches.

In the MLS Western Conference, speedy winger Bongokuhle Hlongwane was on parade for 90 minutes as Minnesota United kept their winning form.

Hlongwane is yet to get his scoring mojo this season. Nevertheless, he has put in good shifts in the three matches played so far. They won twice and lost once.

Additionally, Kelvin Yeboah scored for the second consecutive game to help Minnesota United beat San Jose 1-0 at the PayPal Park on Sunday.

SIYABONGA NGEZANA SEES RED

Meanwhile, former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana was red-carded as FSCB edged CS Universitatea Craiova 1-0 on Sunday night.

Ngezana got his marching orders in the 90th minute after being booked twice by the referee. FSCB remain atop of the Romanian elite league wuth 56 points, two points ahead of CFR Cluj.

Gift Links played 89 minutes as his Denmark side Aarhus Gymnastikforening, were held to a 1-1 draw by Viborg at home, Ceres Park Vejlby, on Sunday afternoon.

In addition, former Orlando Pirates midfielder Marshall Munetsi opened his goal account in a match against Everton on Saturday night.

Munetsi scored the equaliser as Wolverhampton Wanderers settled for a 1-1 draw with Everton. This was his sixth match since joining the EPL side from Stade Reims in February.
