Nabi sends message of assurance to Chiefs fans
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has sent a message of assurance to the club’s supporters as the Soweto giants are two wins away in the Nedbank Cup from ending their nine-year trophy drought.
Amakhosi fans are yearning for success after the team last tasted silverware during the 2014/15 season when they won the league title and MTN8 under the then-head coach Stuart Baxter.
Chiefs roped in the highly-rated coach Nasreddine Nabi at the beginning of the current Betway Premiership season in an effort to end their trophy drought.
Nabi started well, becoming the fans’ favourite; however, the Soweto giants have struggled to find their best form under the coach. Their only realistic chance of winning a trophy now lies in the Nedbank Cup this season, as the league title is seemingly out of their reach.
Chiefs are 27 points adrift of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who are on 55 points with about 10 games remaining in the league. They missed out on the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup.
NABI ISSUES REASSURING STATEMENT TO KAIZER CHIEFS FANS
Chiefs are in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup, where they’ll face a winner between Sundowns and Sekhukhune. The quarterfinal match between Sundowns and Sekhukhune was postponed due to the unavailability of the match venue.
The Brazilians were scheduled to host Babina Noko at Lucas Moripe Stadium this past weekend, however, the match was postponed as the venue was booked for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Nabi has assured the club’s high-demanding fans that he will take the team back to its glory days.
“A big thanks to the millions of fans that came in numbers [in the semifinal win over Stellenbosch this past weekend]. We know that Kaizer Chiefs is a very popular club; it’s a big club. We saw it first hand when we lost against Mamelodi Sundowns; millions of people were chanting even after losing,” Nabi said.
“So against Stellenbosch, the fans pushed us throughout the game. The only thing we can say is that we’re working very hard every day to give those moments of joy and bring back Kaizer Chiefs where it belongs.”
