Three major obstacles hindering Kaizer Chiefs
Nasreddine Nabi, head coach of Kaizer Chiefs, has identified three major challenges hindering Amakhosi from reaching their full potential in the second round of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
Amakhosi have been on an inconsistent run of form since the start of 2025 despite making three new signings in the January transfer window.
The Soweto giants snapped up Thabo Cele, Tashreeq Morris and Glody Lilepo in a bid to turn the club’s fortunes under Nabi and finish in a respectable position on the log standings.
While the trio have somewhat improved the quality of the Chiefs squad, the team has struggled to produce dominant performances on a regular basis.
Since the start of 2025, Amakhosi have won four matches in the league, drew once and lost five times in 10 games. The Glamour Boys are occupying the eighth spot on the league table with 28 points after 20 matches.
WHAT NASREDDINE NABI SAID ABOUT CHIEFS’ CHALLENGES
The three challenges preventing Chiefs from hitting top gear, according to Nabi, include a lengthy injury list depleting the squad, a lack of self-belief among the players who doubt their own abilities, and a decline in confidence following defeats.
“I would say that the factors and the issues we have in this second round of the season are injuries that kept some players away from the team while those players were in a very good momentum,” Nabi said.
“So I would say that [Wandile] Duba, Ashley Du Preez, Ox [Sibogiseni Mthethwa] were in a good space before being injured. You can’t keep the same lineup for about five games in a row because of the injuries.
“Another thing that we have been dealing with is internal. I would say that it’s the conviction and confidence to believe that we can go on a run of good results. This probably comes from experience of the last years; you lose one game, and you’re afraid that you going to lose another one.
“We have worked a lot on that, individually and collectively, but we feel that those three things, the injuries, conviction and confidence were the main issues we faced during this round.”
