Broos announces Bafana final squad for World Cup qualifiers

Bafana Bafana mentor Hugo Broos has announced his final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin this month.

South Africa is scheduled to lock horns with the neighbours Lesotho at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday, 21 March. Broos’ troops will then fly by charter plane to Ivory Coast to play Benin on Tuesday, 25 March 2025.

The Bafana coach named a 37-member preliminary squad a week ago. This preliminary squad included some of the new faces. These players include Samukelo Kabini and Khulumani Ndamane from TS Galaxy and Sekhukhune United’s Siphesihle Mkhize.

On Thursday, 13 March, at the SABC television studios in Auckland Park, the preliminary squad was trimmed to the final 23 players.

Bafana are pitted in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers alongside Rwanda, Benin, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho. The Broos-coached side has played four matches, securing two wins, one draw, and one loss to date.

As things stand, Bafana are in second place in their group. They have garnered seven points, which is the same number of points as the group leaders – Rwanda.
